Morphological Segmentation Can Improve Syllabification
Syllabification is sometimes influenced by morphological boundaries. We show that incorporating morphological information can improve the accuracy of orthographic syllabification in English and German. Surprisingly, unsupervised segmenters, such as Morfessor, can be more useful for this purpose than the supervised ones.
متن کاملContinuous use of metformin can improve survival in type 2 diabetic patients with ovarian cancer
Evidence indicates that type 2 diabetes may stimulate the initiation and progression of several types of cancer. Metformin, a drug most commonly used to treat type 2 diabetes, may inhibit cancer cell growth and reduce the risk of cancer. However, evidence of the antitumor effects of metformin on ovarian cancer is still limited. In this study, we retrospectively examined the effects of metformin ...
متن کاملMorphological and molecular convergences in mammalian phylogenetics
Phylogenetic trees reconstructed from molecular sequences are often considered more reliable than those reconstructed from morphological characters, in part because convergent evolution, which confounds phylogenetic reconstruction, is believed to be rarer for molecular sequences than for morphologies. However, neither the validity of this belief nor its underlying cause is known. Here comparing...
متن کاملMorphological Phylogenetics in the Genomic Age
Evolutionary trees underpin virtually all of biology, and the wealth of new genomic data has enabled us to reconstruct them with increasing detail and confidence. While phenotypic (typically morphological) traits are becoming less important in reconstructing evolutionary trees, they still serve vital and unique roles in phylogenetics, even for living taxa for which vast amounts of genetic infor...
متن کاملMorphological Analysis Can Improve a CCG Parser for English
Because English is a low morphology language, current statistical parsers tend to ignore morphology and accept some level of redundancy. This paper investigates how costly such redundancy is for a lexicalised grammar such as CCG. We use morphological analysis to split verb inflectional suffixes into separate tokens, so that they can receive their own lexical categories. We find that this improv...
